Discover the Hidden Charms of Hitchin – A Self-Guided Town Trail

Step into the timeless charm of Hitchin, a delightful market town where history and beauty blend effortlessly. In the summer, the air is filled with the soothing scent of blooming lavender from the nearby fields—an experience not to be missed.

Begin your journey from the short-stay car park, and follow our carefully curated town trail that leads you through the most iconic and picturesque spots Hitchin has to offer. Wander past historic coaching inns, easily identified by their grand arched gateways, and explore streets that echo with stories of the past.

Though the original Hitchin Priory is long gone, the impressive building that now stands on its grounds offers a glimpse into the town’s rich monastic history.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a casual stroller, or simply in search of a peaceful afternoon, this trail promises an engaging way to uncover the heart and heritage of Hitchin.

Take a walk through time—Hitchin is waiting to charm you.

This walk covers a route, which is about 1 mile long (1.5 kms), and should take you about 1 hour of easy walk to complete.

I suggest parking your car in St Mary car park, SG5 1AB. The walk ends there as well.
