Discover Historic Basingstoke – A Journey Through Time!

Welcome to Basingstoke, Hampshire’s largest market town, where history meets modern life! Though now a bustling hub, Basingstoke’s roots stretch back over 12,000 years to the Palaeolithic period. The town even earned a mention in the Domesday Book of 1086, and its Market Place has stood for an incredible 800 years!

This trail invites you to look beyond the modern façade and uncover the rich history hidden in the town’s architectural gems. Along the way, you’ll discover the stories of famous residents and visitors who left their mark on Basingstoke.

But history isn’t the only attraction—Basingstoke is also home to a collection of thought-provoking and exquisite public artworks. Keep an eye out as you explore the town centre, where these hidden artistic treasures bring an extra layer of charm to the streets.

So, step back in time and see Basingstoke in a whole new light—there’s more to this town than meets the eye!

This walk covers a route of about 2.3 miles (3.7 km). It’s a 2-3 hour easy circular walk.
