Discover Blyth: A Hidden Gem of History and Heritage

Nestled in the north of the Bassetlaw District, Blyth is a charming market town with a rich and fascinating past. Once home to one of the region’s most important religious institutions, Blyth Priory played a central role in the town’s early history. Following the Priory’s dissolution in 1563, the influential Mellish family established their grand hall on the same grounds, shaping Blyth’s destiny for generations.

Today, Blyth offers visitors a delightful mix of tranquillity and heritage. While the town may be small, it holds many intriguing traces of its storied past—waiting to be uncovered as you explore its quiet streets and historic corners.

This walking trail will guide you through the key sites and hidden gems that tell the tale of Blyth’s evolution—from its monastic roots to its transformation under noble influence. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply in search of a peaceful place to explore, Blyth offers a rewarding journey through time in a picturesque setting.

This walk covers a route, which is about 1.7 miles long (2.8 km), from and back to where you parked your car. It should take you about an hour of easy walk to complete.

I suggest parking your car in Little Lane Blyth, S818ET.
