TrailTale

Welcome to Mill Hill Village – a charming village on the edge of London that feels a world away from the bustle of the city. For centuries, this was a quiet rural community of fields and farms, but in the 18th century it began drawing some rather distinguished residents who shaped its character.

In the 19th century, the foundation of Mill Hill School marked a turning point, soon followed by the arrival of several religious institutions, including the striking St Joseph’s School, whose landmark tower can be spotted from miles along the A41.

But Mill Hill has its quirks too – not least one of the shortest High Streets in Britain, packed with history despite its size!

This walk will guide you through the village’s most fascinating stories – from hidden corners to grand landmarks – so you can discover for yourself why Mill Hill remains one of London’s most picturesque gems.

The walk covers a route less than 2 miles (3.2 km) long and should take about 2 hours at a leisurely pace, including one long stretch of moderate ascent.

I recommend parking on the small streets along Lawrence Street, of which the closest to the starting point is Sunnyfield, NW7 4RE.
