TrailTale

Discover the enchanting Morpeth, where centuries of fascinating history are waiting to be discovered. Set along the winding River Wansbeck, this charming market town is rich in stories—so much so that we’ve created four distinct trails to help you explore its many sides.

While its riverside setting may seem ideal for earlier settlement, the town’s recorded story begins in 1080, giving it a strong medieval character that still shapes what you see today.

The streets were once home to religious buildings, it was transformed by a devastating fire in 1689. The elegant architecture that replaced it—much of which still stands—creates the beautiful streetscape you’ll experience on this walk.

Join us as we explore these historic streets, where every corner reveals another chapter of Morpeth’s past.

We created four fantastic trail for you spanning the four quarters of the town. Each tells you the stories associated with each part.

I suggest parking your car at Stanley Terrace North Car Park, located at 2 Dacre Street, Morpeth NE61 1HW.
